Embudo Trail is a popular hiking destination on the lower west side of the Sandias. Embudo is Spanish for "funnel," in reference to this tight canyon, which drains the broader expanse to the east.
To get to the trailhead, turn east from Tramway Blvd and follow Indian School Rd, NE to the paved parking area at the end of the road. This is where the group will meet.
Please be at the parking area and ready to hike by 9:00 am, as this is the time we will depart for the hike.
Length: 3.2 miles one way. We will meet Three Guns Spring trail (No. 194) at the top (see map). At this point we have the option of turning left towards Oso Pass and following the crest for a bit, if everyone agrees. Oso Pass is about 1.5 miles away, with very nice views from the trail.
Elevation: 6,180-7,860 ft.
Rating: Moderate, with steep climbs and a total distance of 6.5 mi. or more.
Bring: Plenty of water, snacks for energy, a packed lunch, and a light jacket.
