Cardio Timed Hike at Canyon Estates Trailhead

Who Should Attend: This is for all fitness levels. We blast up the mountain as hard as we can, as fast as we can, for about an hour, maybe you make the end. If you can only go a little ways in an hour that is fine. We all will turn around at 1 hour mark. You might be hiking alone because we go at different paces.
See Cardio Hike description below.

Required: Please know your food and water requirements and plan accordingly. Occasionally we will have some rain on hikes. You should carry a rain resistant shell and even if the weather is cool a warm jacket. Poles are optional. Always carry a little flashlight, even if hiking only during the day. It’s always good to have a whistle for all outdoor hiking. It’s a good idea to develop a small emergency bag. If you need ideas, let me know. We think “it” will never happen to us. In general, be prepared.
Unplugged Hike: You are welcome to bring your cell phone and leave it on silent or vibrate. If an emergency call, please speak inconspicuously.

Cardio Hike Description: Cardio hikes are suitable for all fitness levels, and the aim is to enhance your physical abilities. You can choose to hike at your own pace, whether it's a leisurely stroll or a vigorous trek. By participating in this type of hike, you'll have the opportunity to gradually increase your endurance and stamina.
We typically hike at a brisk pace for an hour or slightly more, then turn around at the hour mark regardless of our location on the trail. On the way back, we speed down the mountain as quickly as possible and we will meet anyone maintaining a slower pace on the way down. Although you're likely to find hikers who share your pace, if you're new to hiking, you may end up hiking alone. If this is a concern for you, you might prefer not to join us for this type of hike. Please let me know if you are unfamiliar with the trail.
Regardless of your fitness level, you're welcome to join us. We usually spend about two hours hiking, and we'll meet up with anyone who maintains a slower pace at the turnaround point or on the descent. Let's enjoy beautiful New Mexico while improving fitness!
