Sunday Burro Group - Bernie & the Jets!

PLEASE NOTE 8:30 START TIME!

My name for an otherwise unnamed route, as far as I know, in honor one of Bernie's early hikes with us Burros!

We start at the Aspen Vista parking lot, hike up the Service Road for about a mile or so, then turn left at the creek, onto a narrow & steep trail that climbs up to the ridgeline, parallel to the rockpile. It's a strenuous climb, not a long one, but a definite work-out. Once we're on the ridge, we walk over to the rockpile, where we'll have our break/Intention Circle (unless it's too windy there to do so comfortably). Then further over & down to the Chairlift, which takes us to the also steep trail down to & through Carl's Meadow, & back to the Aspen Vista TH.

I think the entire hike may not be much more than 3.5/4 miles total, but there is significant elevation gain (my guess is around 1500 feet) in a short distance, so all hikers need to be sturdy, fit for, & wanting a challenging workout of a climb.

Also, if any wish to do so, there can be an option for some to go from the ridgeline (near the rockpile) further up to the cell towers for more distance, but mostly for a much more challenging workout, as this is a steep climb up, with the reward of great views of Santa Fe Lake on the other side of the towers. Folks should consider how much they want to commit to hiking before we leave DeVargas, for carpooling purposes.

Burro Hikes are considered moderate by our standards, are for experienced hikers, acclimated to altitude here, Our hikes are customarily on designated trails, usually 4-7 miles in distance, unless otherwise specified. Newcomers are welcome! I do ask that prior to signing up for your first hike with us, you test your fitness by timing yourself hiking up and down Atalaya, which you should be able to do comfortably in 3 hours or less (from Wilderness Gate or staircase, using steep route option). Non-aggressive, well mannered dogs are always welcome on my hikes.

We meet at the DeVargas Mall parking lot, behind the stores (back of lot), asking that all cars be parked in a lane near the bowling alley, but not right up against the mall wall. We carpool to all THs together. Please offer your driver $2 to cover gas expense for this hike. We leave promptly so if you're running just a few minutes late, text me, we'll wait up to 5 minutes for you if you do so.

Please be considerate of those on the Wait List and sign off hike as soon as you know you cannot attend, preferable 24 hours in advance if at all possible. PLEASE DO NOT NO SHOW! Repeated No Shows have consequences!
