Sunday Burro Hike - Diablo Canyon
Details
PLEASE NOTE 9:00 AM START TIME!
Jim Harnar will lead this hike as Ronnie is out of town.
Diablo Canyon is a traditional winter hike for our Group, we often only hike here once a year, but Jim H has generously offered to lead the Burros here on this date, so all should take advantage of having a pre-winter hike in this beautiful canyon. It is a Group favorite, offering outstanding views of the canyon, often with rock climbers on it. An easy, 6 mile round trip, flat walk on the sand in the arroyo, starting with dramatic vertical cliffs on either side, then widening to the Rio Grande which is our turnaround point. This is an easy hike, really a walk in the sand of the arroyo, should be most pleasant at this time of year. No significant elevation, about a 30-40 minute drive each way.
Burro hikes are for experienced hikers, acclimated to altitude here. They are considered moderate by our standards, usually 4-6 miles on designated trails, unless otherwise specified. Newcomers are welcome. Prior to signing up for your first hike with us, please test your fitness by timing yourself hiking up and down Atalaya, which you should be able to comfortably do in 3 hours or less, starting from Wilderness Gate or Staircase, using Steep Route option. If you have any questions about Atalaya, or about my hikes in general, feel free to text me.
