Sunday Burro Hike - Burn to Chamisa Saddle via Saddleback Trail
Details
PLEASE NOTE 9:30 START TIME.
For this year's Easter Sunday Burro Hike, I chose the Saddleback Trail, connecting Burn with Chamisa, not as frequented as many others, with differing views due to its positioning. We'll all begin at Burn Trail, hike to Gate, where we'll turn right onto Saddleback and proceed steadily uphill to Chamisa saddle. From there we'll hike down to the Chamisa TH where we will have left cars, to shuttle us back to Burn TH, where we began. Total distance is approximately 5 miles (I haven't tracked it, so this is my guestimate); with some significant elevation gain, steady uphill climb for most of route, (from beginning to Chamisa Saddle), with some short but steep sections on Saddleback.
There will be an option for those who wish to turn around at Chamisa Saddle, & hike back the way we came, which will add approximately another 1.5 miles to our distance. Folks will need to decide at DeVargas which way they prefer for carpooling purposes.
Burro Hikes are considered moderate by our standards, are for experienced hikers, acclimated to altitude here, usually on designated trails and usually 4-6 miles in distance, unless otherwise specified. Newcomers are welcome! I do ask that prior to signing up for your first hike with us, you test your fitness by timing yourself hiking up and down Atalaya, which you should be able to do comfortably in 3 1/2 hours or less (from Wilderness Gate or staircase, using steep route option). If you have any questions about Atalaya, or about my hikes in general, please feel free to text me.

Non-aggressive, well mannered dogs are always welcome on my hikes.
We meet at the DeVargas Mall parking lot, behind the stores (back of lot); please park in a lane near the bowling alley, but not right up against the mall wall. We carpool to all THs together. Please offer your driver $2 to cover gas expense for this hike. We leave promptly so if you're running just a few minutes late, text me, we'll wait up to 5 minutes for you if you do so.
Please be considerate of those on the Wait List and sign off hike as soon as you know you cannot attend, preferable 24 hours in advance if at all possible. PLEASE DO NOT NO SHOW! Repeated No Shows have consequences!
