Hike Description: Rick will lead this hike. The Piedra Lisa Trail is located in the Sandias, near Albuquerque, an hour south of Santa Fe. We will be doing only the first portion of the trail, which ascends steadily thru pinons and junipers. The views are great, as on one side we'll see the Rio Grande Rift and on the other interesting granite formations including the Shield and the Thumb. We'll stop at a saddle featuring viewpoints of the Sangres, take a snack/lunch break and head back as we came. We may have an optional short extender up one of the side trails that meet at the lunch spot. While the trail is accommodating, and we'll take frequent short breathers, this hike will still give you a good cardio work out on the way up and exercise your quads on the way down. One caution. Parts of the trail have a coating of small pebbles, which can make footing slippery, especially on the descent.
What to bring:
Sturdy hiking boots or shoes
Layers, extra clothing, and water resistant outer wear.
Water for a 3+ hour hike
