Cerro Seco
Details
Hike the Cerro Seco Semi Loop with a possible trip to the summit in the Valle Caldera. We will stop at the gorgeous Valle Seco on the return.
11.5 miles/1515 feet ascent. A little more if we bag the summit. All on former ranch and logging roads re-designated as trails. Significant shade on this route. It is possible to shorten the loop by taking one or more of residual logging roads. This may require getting around some deadfall.
Strenuous. Moderate pace averaging 1.8 to 2 mph.
Hikers should be able to complete the Atalaya Mountain Trail in 4 hours.

The event will require 2 sign ons along with the host to proceed.
The host has permits for 2 vehicles.
The hike is located in Valle Caldera National Preserve
No pets.
Hike time is estimated to be 5 to 5.5 hours.
Event and hike times are estimates. The host cannot guarantee a return time to meet point but we need to be back at the visitors center by 4:00 PM This gets us back to De Vargas around 6:00 PM. . It is wise to not schedule anything important or set a time limit due to other commitments.
The host has hiked the vicinity several times but not this exact route.
Your gear is your safety net.
-2 liters of water is considered a minimum. More food than you expect to need.
-Light, quick drying, warmth layers, extra pair of socks.
-Good and tested rain gear.
-Headlamp and spare batteries, whistle or noise making device.
-Phone with optional mapping software or a paper map and compass.
-Optional personal locater beacon or InReach device.
-Long pants and hiking poles are recommended.
The hosts advises hikers to keep phone numbers of emergency contacts available.
Drive is 4 hours 20 minutes and 140 miles. Cost is $21.00 divided by passengers in each vehicle.
