Cerro Grande and Frijoles Overlook

Hike Cerro Grande and a short trip to the Frijoles Canyon Overlook afterwards. The host has never missed seeing herds of elk this time of year.

Cerro Grande: 4.4 miles/1224 ascent on trail.
Frijoles Canyon Overlook: 1.8 miles and nearly flat.

Host has hiked it multiple times.

This is a strenuous event due to rapid ascent for the distance but will be done at a moderate pace of 1.8 to 2 mph.

Hikers may be asked about their recent experience if they have not hiked with the host before. Hikers should be able hike Picacho Peak in 3 hours.

Event and hike times are estimates. The host cannot guarantee a return time. It is wise to not schedule anything important or set a time limit due to other commitments.

Your gear is your safety net. Bring the following and know how to use it:
-2 liters of water is considered a minimum. More food than you expect to need.
-Light, quick drying, warmth layers, extra pair of socks.
-Good and tested rain gear.
-Headlamp and spare batteries, whistle or noise making device.
-Phone with optional mapping software or a paper map and compass.
-Optional personal locater beacon or InReach device.
-Long pants and hiking poles are recommended.

The hosts advises hikers to keep phone numbers of emergency contacts available.

Round trip mileage is 90 and takes 1.9 hours. $14.00 divided amongst passengers is the cost.
