Cruz the Ridge Trail through the Santa Cruz Mountains

Hike or ride through the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains straddling Santa Clara and San Mateo counties on the 4th Annual Ridge Trail Cruz. Come out and enjoy the trail and raise funds to complete the vision. The Cruz has a variety of hiking and riding options, including a special tot-friendly family hike, and all offer scenic trails with gorgeous vistas.

The Cruz is a fully supported event with light breakfast, rest stops, lunch, water, route leaders, sweeps, and maps provided. Communications and first aid support have been arranged. Hikers and cyclists will be transported by bus for a one-way hike or ride. Advance registration is required on our website (https://www.ridgetrail.org/about/news_detail.cfm?id=171) and attendance is limited.

Start times, detailed below, vary depending on which event you choose. Confirmed payment is your official confirmation. Detailed information and directions will be emailed to you prior to the event.

Hikes: Both longer hikes are challenging with at least 1000 feet of elevation gain with many ups and downs. Please choose your hike based on your conditioning and skill level.

23-mile: Arrive 7:15 a.m. (possible to end at 13 miles).
13-mile: Arrive 8:15 a.m. (possible to end at 8 miles).
Family: Short hike (~1m) around Horseshoe Lake and vicinity. $20 fee for entire family. Arrive 9:45 a.m.

Horseback Rides: Equestrians will have a choice of rides, from ~10 miles to ~ 23 miles, with varying amounts of climbing. All routes have a mix of fire roads and singletrack riding. Mountain Bike Rides: New Routes in 2009!Cyclists will enjoy a unique opportunity to "preview" the Ridge Trail in Sanborn County Park as part of this one-day special event before the park’s official opening to mountain bikes [riders MUST be registered for this event to ride in the park]. Thanks to Council partners Santa Clara County Parks for supporting the Cruz with permission for this special opportunity.

Two bike rides will be offered. All riders and bikes will be shuttled to the start of the ride. Both rides are challenging and have a mix of fire roads and singletrack riding, plenty of climbing and a short bit of riding on Highway 35. Please choose your ride based on your conditioning, experience, and skill level. Arrive 9:15 a.m.

Intermediate: ~18 miles (possible to end at 12 miles)
Advanced: ~31 miles, includes long 1300 foot climb and challenging techinical sections (possible to end at 21 miles)

Help Raise Funds to Complete the Ridge Trail
Participants can join the "Cruz-a-thon" and support the Ridge Trail. Ask your friends and colleagues to sponsor you at $1, $5, or $10 per mile. Top fundraisers will win great prizes including a 3 night stay for 2 at The Mexican Inn in Cabo San Lucas and gear from REI and Wilderness Trail Bikes.
