Ecbo! Etiwanda Cucamonga Big Horn And Ontario

Details

20 miles in the cucamonga wilderness! 4 peaks! We hike and stay as a group. I am testing posting from the mobile app and will update this description later today.

from Jackie:

stats:

miles: 20ish

gain: 6k-ish

this is an advanced hike- we will be going at a brisk-ish pace...there will be some off-trail hiking (up the ridge toward Bighorn)

as usual: I am not your mommy, camp counselor, tour guide: you are an adult and entirely responsible for yourself...

from Perry:

ABOUT THE HIKE: The Ice House Cyn Trail goes up at about 700’ per mile until we'll reach the Ice House Saddle at about 3.6 miles. From there, the trail is a roller coaster of sorts for the next 1.5 miles until we reach the next saddle. The trail gets very steep from the saddle as we climb some 1,200’ over the next mile and walk the traverse to Etiwanda Peak. From Cucamonga Pk to Eti and back is about 3 miles. After a short break, we'll hike back and ascend to Cucamonga Peak, which is one of the better views in the Angeles National Forest.

We will hike down from Cuc to the saddle and then ascend Bighorn Pk via a short but rather steep route. From there it is a long roller coaster route along the ridge line to Ontario Pk.

A National Forest Adventure Pass is required for parking at the trail head.

You can find the weather forecast for the area at this link:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=34.23337699755914&lon=-117.59628295898438

NOTES: I recommend plenty of water and/or sports drinks. I bring 5L.

DIRECTIONS: The location link above connects to GoogleMaps with the option to get directions from your starting point. Otherwise, from the 210 East, exit at Baseline and turn left. Go about 300 yards and turn right at Padua Ave. Go about 1.7 miles and turn right at Mt. Baldy Rd. About 1.5 miles pass the Baldy village, you will come to a fork in the road. Turn right at Ice House Canyon Rd and go about 200 yards to the parking lot on the left.

There are pit toilets at the trail head but no water.

Boilerplate Legalese:

Hiking is an at-risk activity and I am a volunteer so you are fully responsible for your safety while driving and hiking this event.

Thanks everyone! have a great week hiking!!!
