About us
If you like doing things outdoors and getting a cold beer afterward this group is for you! The goal of this group is to bring together like minded people who love nature and the outdoors as well as going to happy hours and socializing.
As the name suggests, the geographic center of the events held by this group will be Cleveland Ohio, with perhaps a slight bias towards the East Side. Occasionally, more strenuous hikes will be planned which may be in the Columbus area or in Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania. In general, the hikes will be within a couple hours of Cleveland.
This group places a strong emphasis on being inclusive of people of all fitness levels and welcoming newcomers. However, every now and then, we may go on more strenuous hikes that may not be appropriate for beginners, and we encourage you to consider your skill level and the event description before attending. However, regardless of your skill level, all are welcome!
Before attending any events, please make sure you read and understand our member rules / requirements listed below, so that everyone has a fun and safe time! We look forward to seeing you out there!

Zimmerman Trail / Headlands Beach (Swimming Optional!) / Pickle Bills
Zimmerman Trail, 9325 Rosemary Ln, Mentor, OH, USNOTE: Earlier start time: While most of this groups events start at 1pm, I'm starting this one at 12:00 pm since it is more of an "all afternoon activity" (but please feel free to show up for any part you like, I'll post in the comments when we move).
This is an event I've been thinking about for a while! Let's first start by meeting up at the Zimmerman Trail. Afterwards, we'll head over to Mentor Headland's Beach where we have the option of swimming, walking along the beach (or some of the inland trails) or just relaxing on the beach. Finally, we'll head to Pickle Bills for some much needed refreshment and additional beach vibes!
Part 1 - Zimmerman Trail
The Zimmerman Trail Trail features both forest and beautiful marshy wetlands. This 3.9 mile trail has very little overall elevation gain (160 ft) so it is considered easy. As it is a wetlands, please bring mosquito repellant!Park 2: Headlands Beach:
The second phase of this event will be at Mentor Headlands Beach State Park:- For this portion of the event, we'll meet at the Buckeye Trail Northern Terminus (Closest Address (restroom within eyesight): 4 Coast Guard Rd, Mentor, OH 44060)
- I estimate we'll be arriving here around 1:30 to 1:45, but I'll post an update in the comments when we complete the Zimmerman Trail.
- We'll probably spend about 2 hours at Mentor Headland's Beach State Park
- My plan is to start by leading a quick 20 / 30 minute (~1 mile) hike along the Headlands Beach Trail
- From there, we'll walk back along the beach and find a spot to hang out at.
- I'll bring a Frisbee, Football, and cornhole boards for people who like to stay on the beach.
- I plan to bring a bathing suit myself and go swimming!
- For people who prefer to stay on land: Bring a beach towel and / or beach chairs. I'll also bring corn hole boards, Frisbees, a football, etc.
Part 3: Pickle Bills:
Pickle Bills (Address: 101 River St Grand River, OH 44045) is a large seafood / nautical themed restaurant which I would best describe as "delightfully eclectic". We're talking mannequins and mermaids hanging from the ceiling and Jimmy Buffet references in most directions that you look. It also has good food, plenty of outdoor seating (including a floating dock), and a roof top tiki bar. If you haven't been before, get ready!RULES AND DISCLAIMER: If you attend this event, you must must agree to follow all of our rules on the main page and agree to the release of liability. Tinkers Creek / The Oak Barrel
Hemlock Creek Picnic Area, 14800 Button Rd, Walton Hills, OH 44146, Walton Hills, oh, USLet's hike the Tinkers Creek Via Bridle and Hemlock Loop trail. This is a 6 to 7 mile out and back hike with about 600 feet of elevation gain. After an initial fairly steep climb, it snakes back and fourth along a ridge line overlooking Tinker's Creek before descending down to the creek itself.
After the hike, anyone who is interested can attend an optional post hike happy hour at The Oak Barrel, a farm to table gastropub with large craft beer and bourbon selections as well.

Hocking Hills (Conkle's Hollow, Airplane Rock, White Falls) / Schmidt's
Conkles Hollow, 24858 Big Pine Rd, Rockbridge, OH, USOn this hike, we'll explore various sights in the upper Hocking Hills and head to Schmidt's Sausage Haus afterward to regain every calory lost. Trust me, it will be worth it!
The Conkles Hollow, Airplane Rock, White Falls is a 11.2 mile route with approximately 1760 feet of elevation gain. As the name implies, this will explore Conkle's Hollow (technically separate from Hocking Hills State Park), Airplane Rock and White Falls.
WARNING: Use the GPS coordinates for the map pin and not the address, since the address is close but not quite right. Or search for Conkle's Hollow Parking Lot in Google Maps. There is very little cell service in the area. Bring boots and plenty of water!
After the hike, we'll head to Schmidt's Sausage Haus (240 East Kossuth Street, Columbus, OH 43206) in downtown Columbus. It is about an hour drive from the hike parking lot, but just hear me out! It's right on the way back (it really doesn't add any time to our return trip) and it pretty much is an icon of Columbus. Schmidt's has an all you can eat German buffet (and many other options on their normal menu), 32 oz beer steins, and some bang'n cream puffs, strudel and other tasty German desserts. What I'm really trying to say is if you have any German in your ancestry and you don't come, your family will be ashamed of you! (I tried to warn you).
