Hocking Hills: Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave / Schmidt's Sausage Haus
Details
Okay, I'm REALLY excited for this one! On this hike, we're heading to Hocking Hills and doing the Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave via Buckeye Trail. Afterwards, we'll head to Schmidt's Sausage Haus in Columbus's German Village.
The Old Man's Cave / Ash Cave route is a 10.1 mile moderate rated hike on All Trails with an elevation gain of approximately 1000 ft. This scenic hike has a range of scenery, including waterfalls, caves, rock formations and a fire tower. The caves (and Old Man's Cave in particular) are are particularly impressive and are truly a hidden gem of Ohio. If you miss this hike, the regret will probably haunt your dreams! Sorry not sorry.
There is no cell service in the area. Bring boots and plenty of water!
After the hike, we'll head to Schmidt's Sausage Haus (240 East Kossuth Street, Columbus, OH 43206) in downtown Columbus. It is about an hour drive from the hike parking lot, but just hear me out! It's right on the way back (it really doesn't add any time to our return trip) and it pretty much is an icon of Columbus. Schmidt's has an all you can eat German buffet (and many other options on their normal menu), 32 oz beer steins, and some bang'n cream puffs, strudel and other tasty German desserts. What I'm really trying to say is if you have any German in your ancestry and you don't come, your family will be ashamed of you! (I tried to warn you).
