University Circle and Lakeview Cemetery / Jolly Scholar

On this urban hike, we'll be exploring the University Circle area and getting into the Halloween spirit by winding our way through Lakeview Cemetery. Afterwards, we'll stop at the The Jolly Scholar for our post hike refreshment.

This hike will be a moderate, approximately 5.5 to 5.75 mile route. We'll start at the fountain right by the art museum, from where we'll wind around Wade Lagoon and then follow Doan Brook over to Rockefeller Park. Next we'll wind around Wade Oval and the Case campus, cross through little Italy, and then follow Mayfield Road up to the Mayfield entrance of Lakeview Cemetery. We'll thread our way past tombstones and monuments in the beautiful, forested cemetery and catch some unique views of the city in the process. I've only been to the cemetery for the first time a few weeks a back, and while I knew it was impressive, there are parts that are truly breath taking.

On the way back to the museum fountain starting point, we'll stop at the The Jolly Scholar. The Jolly Scholar is the campus staple of Case Western Reserve and as an alumni myself, has a special (sometimes embarrassing) place in my heart. Its menu features a great beer selection and decent pub food, and if the weather is warm enough, an outside patio as well.
