Loney Meadow and many lakes loop

Details

Join us for a quiet hike (about 6 miles with 700 ft elevation gain) around a meadow, through a forest and to some lakes. This is off of Hwy 20, below Penner Lake, at a different trail head. There is only about 3/4 of a mile that is on a dirt road.
We will hike about 1/2 way around Loney Meadow. The trail skirts the meadow with a couple of bridges over creeks. The trail then joins Bull Pen Lake trial, which follows Texas Creek upstream. There is a short jaunt over to Bull Pen lake, then we will go up to the Rock lakes. At that point we will double back to the Lindsey Lake trail. There is a water crossing on this trail that is sometimes impassible. If we can't cross, we will head back to Loney Meadow. Lindsey Lake trail will take us to a restricted-access dirt road (there is only one house) that goes to Culbertson and Lindsey Lakes and on to the Lindsey campground and finishing the hike on a regular dirt road from the campground back to the trail head.
This All Trails link will show you the area, but we are only doing an out and back (or smaller loop) not the large loop of this posted hike. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/loney-meadows-bullpen-lindsey-lake-crooked-lake-and-round-lake-loop There is parking for about ten cars, but no services other than a hill with a dense growth of trees. From I-80, take exit 161 toward Nevada City. (CAUTION a few weeks ago the I-80 east bound exit to Hey 20 was closed. If it still is, take the next exit, Eagle lakes Road, get back onto I-80 and take the freeway westbound. Take the next exit 161) After 4 miles turn right onto Bowman Lake Road. Follow Bowman Lake Road 11 miles (just after the pavement ends) Turn right onto Lindsey Lake Road (17-8). Don't worry about the sign advising 4-wheel drive. Go about 1/4 mile and turn left to Loney Meadows (18-19) and find the parking lot in about 1/2 mile. It is a rough dirt road of about 3/4 mile to the trail head, but most cars should be able to handle it. **Note: Google Maps does not show NFR 18-19 (**see the driving map in photos below) and will direct you to the wrong road. Keep on Bowman Road until the pavement runs out, turn right in about 200 feet. Print the forest service motorized vehicle use map picture below. Apple maps will get you to the trailhead.

See the maps in the photo section on the bottom of this page. The first one shows the hiking route. The 2nd highlights the parking area.

RSVP: For the number of Dogs not people.
2 people & one dog = 1 (+0)
2 dogs and one person = 2 (+1)
Bring: A leash, poop bags, water for you and your dog, lunch, dog snacks and mosquito repellant.
We hike off leash as much as possible. We leash the dogs when needed for other dogs and some people. You must have voice control over your dog if you allow it off leash. You are responsible for any fines/repercussions for your dog being off leash. (We have never had an issue.)
Please arrive 15 minutes early to get your gear ready to hike. We will only wait 5 minutes for latecomers. If late, you will probably be able to catch up with us easily. We start out slow, picking up after pooping dogs and photographers taking photos.
Last minute cancellations are frowned upon. Please cancel at least 24, preferably 48 hours in advance, especially if there are dogs on the wait list.
If you need to cancel because of a last minute emergency, please do so before 7 am the day of the hike. Otherwise we won't get notification. If you are lost or late, call or text 916-307-8743. Hopefully I will have cell service.
