Caples Creek
Details
Description: This is a 5 mile hike that follows caples creek for part of the hike, then opens up to a few beautiful meadows. I will be going as far as the second meadow, picnic there then turn back. The terrain is uneven and the trail is a bit rocky in sections so be sure to bring sturdy hiking boots. We hike at a leisurely pace and I will be taking it slow. We take time to let the dogs play, take pictures and enjoy the scenery.
Be bear aware! We did see a bear one year and it was too close for comfort!! We saw bear scat as well so its likely one stays in the area. Safety for us and our pups is important, be aware, stick together as a group, and don't let your pups run too far ahead.
Trailhead Directions: On Highway 50 to Kyburz, look for the "Silverfork Road 1 Mile" sign. Turn right onto Silverfork Road and proceed 9 miles to the trailhead on your left (0.5 mile past Silver Fork Campground). If you cross the bridge over the Silver Fork of the American River, then you have just passed the trailhead. There is plenty of parking here.

Please arrive 15 minutes early so you can be ready to hike at 10:00. Plan your travel time accordingly from your departure location. There is no reception at the trailhead, be sure to print or download your map ahead of time. We will not wait for those who are late.
Bring: Sturdy hiking boots (important!), poop bags, leash, lunch for you and your dog, water for you and your dog in a reusable container, hat, sun screen, layered clothes, bug spray, bear spray, bear bells.
RSVP for the number of dogs you are bringing. You and 1 dog=just you 0, you +2 dogs = +1. If you are bringing extra people, no need to RSVP for them. Main concern is the number of dogs. If you want to bring more than 2 dogs, send a message to the hike leader.
If you need to change your RSVP, please do so as soon as possible. No shows effect the whole group so please update your RSVP if you cannot attend, even if its last minute.
Rules of Attendance: Keep your dog on leash in the parking lot/trail head until your hike leader indicates that its OK to take your dog off leash. We try to go off leash as much as possible, but if we encounter horses, kids or other dogs we will all leash up. If you let your dog off leash, you must have voice control over your dog. Don't let them range too far ahead or go out of sight. You must pick up after your dog. Stay with the group unless otherwise arranged with the hike leader. Leaving early or taking an alternate trail is fine, just let your hike leader know.
