Driving south on I-10, this mountain rises on the right-hand side of the freeway, half way between Phoenix and Tucson, and tapers off into a point at the top, appearing like an illustration straight out of a Dr. Seuss book.
Picacho Peak is one of those mountains you just have to hike! This is like no other trail in AZ! The view from the top is AMAZING!

Hunter's Trail is 4 miles out and back trail that takes you to the summit of Picacho Peak and it will not disappoint, especially if you're looking to get that adrenaline rush. What sets this hike apart from most trails in Arizona is the system of cables, handrails, and bridges in some sections of the hike.
It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and later added to by the Boy Scouts of America.

Once at the summit, we will take time for pictures, rest and snacks. The trail is a good workout from the get go. If you are afraid of heights, then this is NOT the hike for you. You will not be able to use hiking poles, so don't bring them.
Be prepared with strong gloves, sturdy hiking footwear, plenty of water (at least 2L), hat, sunscreen and high energy snacks.

After our hike, we will head back to Phoenix/Ahwatukee and reward our efforts with a cold one (or more) at:
Wicked Brews, Bites & Spirits
