The climb to the top of Maryland Heights is very steep, so there will be multiple stops along the way. We go up to the fort (steep climb) with a nice overlook of the Potomac River on top. Hike along the ridge with two additional overlooks. Then hike down to the MD Heights overlook with spectacular views of Harpers Ferry and the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. Eat snack/lunch at the overlook.

Directions to Harper's Ferry from Baltimore: 70 West to 340 South. Follow 340 from MD to Vir to W Vir. After crossing the Shenandoah River, take first Right at Shenandoah St and follow to the end of the road and make a left hand turn. The Amtrak parking lot is two blocks away on the Right Hand Side.

Parking Limited: Arrive at 10 AM to ensure enough time to part and meet at Amtrack.

There is a $20 parking fee (per car) and limited parking at the Amtrak Station in Harper's Ferry. Additional Parking (Free): Going toward town, make a left at Washington St, a left at Gillmore St (next to United Methodist Church) and a left onto Fillmore St. Park on the side of the road (some parts restricted for residents) or in parking spaces by Lockwood House or Cemetery. Note: Washington St is the street before the Potomac street for the Amtrak parking. (5-7 minute walk to Amtrak station)

Also Additional Parking: Visitor Center ($20 Fee). Arrive no later than 9:30 AM and allow 15 minutes to shuttle into town and 5 minutes to walk to the Amtrak Station.
