Ampersand Mountain - B3B

Details
THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER HIKE!!!
Ampersand is one of the most popular hikes in the Saranac Lake Region. The 3353 foot summit of Ampersand Mountain features a bare summit with spectacular views. The beginning of the trail travels gradually through the forest for about a mile and then climbs sharply. With an expansive stone staircase along the steeper sections of the trail it makes for a very unique hiking experience. Don't let the short distance fool you; this can be a tough little climb. Once you break out on the bare summit you will be awarded with spectacular 360 degree views. The ascent to the top is about 1800 feet of elevation gain in 2.7 miles of hiking. This will be a long day as the drive up will be close to 3 hrs with about 5 - 6 hrs of hiking time and then the ride home.
You should be doing regular aerobic exercises and have previously climb some elevation as Ampersand Mt is steep. This time of year the trails can be anything from frozen to mud so please be prepared. Proper hiking gear and clothing are required to participate in this hike. No dogs please. Also bring gaiters, trekking poles, water, snacks, money if carpooling, etc.
Inclement weather will postpone this hike.
