First we will climb Mud Pond Mountain, 5.5 miles round-trip 800 feet elevation gain 2439’ Summit elevation. Excellent view of surrounding mountains from Summit. Most of the elevation.gain is in the last half mile to the summit. Then a 20+- minute drive to the Buck Mountain fire tower 2.4 miles round-trip 500 feet elevation gain 2400 foot summit elevation. Excellent view from the fire tower of surrounding mountains, including Blue Mountain in the distance. Dress in non-cotton.layers for winter weather and wear hiking boots. Bring hydration/snacks/lunch/headlamp/micro spikes /snowshoes/carpool cash. Meet Northway exit 9 Fire Rd. park-and-ride at 6:30AM to carpool. We will make a brief pitstop at the Stewart’s in Long Lake on the way to the trailhead . We can have dinner at the Long Lake Hotel after the hikes for those interested..
