Meet at Naburn Lock free Car Parking, YO19 4RU.
Start Time on the water 08:45 am ⏰. Allow good time to park-up, pump-up and launch on the water! 🚣‍♀️
Delightful 10 miles round trip on the river Ouse.
Route takes in River Ouse south of York and city centre for picnic lunch/Cafe or pub.
Bring well maintained paddle craft including buoyancy aid, food, water and lots of smiles 😊.

You will need a waterways license to paddle an inland waterway.😇
Membership of https://paddleuk.org.uk/ includes this license.
Weather dependent event (low wind and good visibility) for paddlers with experience, a suitable Paddle board, Kayak or Canoe and a Life-Jacket or Buoyancy Aid.

If the weather is bad the event will be cancelled and rescheduled possibly for the following weekend.

Putting this up early so you can plan/book travel and secure affordable accommodation on rsvping to this invite.

We had a great time a few years ago, so I'm going to do it all again to welcome you to discover the delights and Autumn colours around the capital of Scotland with my Scottish Walkers who will also be invited to walks planned and the Saturday groups dinner in central Edinburgh which will include a visit to a pub or two ?

Schedule -
Friday 18 September
Travel up, check in, you can go for a wee wonder up Princes St, The Edinburgh Castle (I'd just walk up, enjoy outside and not pay, extortion £ to get in) or check out the Johnnie Walker Experience Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky Experience Edinburgh | Princes Street | Johnnie Walker UK or go shopping/eat at our new 1 billion pound St.James shopping centre St James Quarter Edinburgh off Princes St.
I will then meet you at 7pm for drinks/optional eats at an amazing ex bank now Weatherspoons to keep it affordable with a group table and welcome you to Edinburgh.

Saturday 19 September- Edinburgh Tour
We will meet on Princes St (at the Scott Monument - 9.50am is central on Princes St as most busses drop there if not walking to meet point) I will then walk you to the beautiful Deans Village to join the Water of Leith to the trendy area called Stockbridge. After a quick refreshment/loo break at the lovely Raeburn beer garden, we will then check out the Botanic Gardens to the New Town then over Princes Street to Calton Hill for 360 views of Edinburgh. On siting Arthur's Seat there, we will walk down and past the ugliest building in Scotland - Our Scottish Parliament Building, past the now Kings Castle residence before steadily walking up Arthur's Seat (1000ft) to view everything Edinburgh has at its doorstep.
BYO Lunch will follow at the 'Meadows' for another view of Edinburgh Castle and Arthurs Seat at sea level.
Its then to Blackford Hill, walking past £1million + houses for another view point across Edinburgh and the Pentlands, then down through the secret Hermitage forest to Morningside for a refreshment to compete walk. About 10-11 miles. All buses from there go back to Princes St for £2.40 OW to then get ready for dinner or a 40 minute walk back to start meet point pending on where you are staying.

Group Dinner 7pm BYOB Lebanese Restaurant Sat 19 September
My good friend, Uself will take good care of us and accommodates veggies, vegan/fussy eaters. Its BYO so again will save cost of buying drink at restaurant. There's Lidl/Sainsburys around the corner if needed. £15 deposit will be required to secure seat on rsvping separately (non refundable to be fair with you and my Scottish walkers invited) menu - Beirut Restaurant Edinburgh | Grill, Lebanese Food & Vegetarian Options There's then nearby to pubs or Jazz Bar! If Dave can make it, he's first on the dance floor?

Beirut Restaurant 10 minute walk from Princes St up to Surgeons Hall or busses run through Princes St and surrounding areas to link up/drop off are 2, 5, 7, 8,14, 29,30, 31, 33, 37, 47. Get off at Lidls/KFC. Restaurant around the corner off Nicolson Square.

Sunday 20 September - Pentlands
We will meet at Princes St at again the Scott Monument (time TBC - will aim for 10.30 for a bit of a sleep in for all) then catch the bus 10 miles out to the outskirts of Edinburgh to walk the Pentlands (£2.40 OW) A steady climb through a forest then we'll head left and climb up to 1st view point then over the tops for our lunch break climbing to 1500 feet overlooking Edinburgh to view Fife/North Sea as well. On decent there is a great pub for a refreshment and is right next to the bus back into Edinburgh. Once back we can go for a cheerio drink to complete the weekend.

Accommodation ideas - its a little quieter after the Edinburgh Festival but recommend you book early for best prices to confirm. Weather normally still pretty good - but bring warm clothing, poles, boots for walks.

Don't stay at Niddrie, Oxgangs, Saughton. Granton. Dodgy.
Cheaper option out with Edinburgh is Dalkieth, but bus will be 30 mins to meet point. The Gyle, Castophane, Haymarket, Airport area has tram so easy commute.

Lothian Busses are £2.40 OW anywhere in Edinburgh or you can grab a day pass for £6 for unlimited travel PD. Just ask driver before tapping card.

As part of the Edinburgh Walking Weekend, to welcome you coming up from England, thought it would be a nice idea to a few drinks at Weatherspoons at the Omni Centre OMNi | Wetherspoon with the Scottish walkers attending to kick start the weekend.

The Weatherspoons at the Omni Centre is central and a convenient and lively spot for a group gathering with plenty of drink options and a casual atmosphere. Your welcome to join us if rsvped for either walks planned over the weekend.
