What we’re about
This group is to organise hiking daytrips from Geneva with a historical theme. I'm basing these on suggestions found in a local historical publication called Passé Simple. The hikes are meant to be reachable via public transport (Geneva train station) and of easy to medium difficulty (2 to 5 hours).
I'm not a professional guide, just an enthusiast :)

See all- Saint-Maurice Castle and AbbeyNeeds location
Hello!
Let’s meet this Sunday for a hike in Valais, going from Bex to Saint-Maurice, where we can visit its castle and abbey.Let’s meet at Bex station at 09:45. I’ll be on the Geneva train leaving Geneva at 08:08, if you are travelling the same way and wish to join me earlier. This hike will start with a climb towards les Monts de Bex to have a view of the valley. It’s not too long but is still steep, look at the Komoot link below for details.
We’ll then walk down towards Saint-Maurice and its castle. This is currently hosting an exhibition on Asterix! More info here: https://www.chateau-stmaurice.ch/site
From then we will go by the abbey of Saint-Maurice, which also promises to be an interesting visit. We can decide on the spot if we have the energy to do a full visit of that as well. More info here: https://www.abbaye-stmaurice.ch/fr
The hike should be around 4 hours, and counting 2h for the visit, we should be done around 4pm.
As usual please come prepared for changes in weather and with water, snacks, etc, and make sure you are equipped for summer conditions (hat, sunscreen). I am not a professional guide and decline responsibility for any incident.
A detailed map and stats on the intended hike can be found here:
