Hike around Les Rousses and its Fort
Details
Hello,
To try to escape the heatwave and visit an exceptional site, let’s meet Saturday for a hike around Les Rousses and its fort!
This lies just over the border on the French side of the Jura mountains. Being higher up, the weather should be more pleasant than most places at the moment. The hike takes us from the train station of La Cure on the Swiss side, around forests and fields to the resort town of Les Rousses. After a break there we can move on to visiting the fort.
Built in the mid 19th century and the second largest in France, it is today used as the production site for Comté cheese and can be visited. The visit is 90 minutes and you are advised to bring a something warm to wear, as the temperature is 8 degrees year-round. You need to book the visit in advance as places are limited!
You can find out more on this site here: https://www.fort-des-rousses.com/fr
Here is the booking page for the visit. We are aiming for the one at 14:00 on the 27th:

Let’s meet at La Cure at 10:30 on Saturday morning. I’ll be on the Geneva train leaving at 09:08 via Nyon. I estimate we should be back at La Cure station around 5.
As usual please come prepared for changes in weather anyway and with water, snacks, etc,. Remember to take ID as we are crossing a border. Please use the chat function on the event page for on-the-day updates and if you need to get in touch.
I am not a professional guide and decline responsibility for any incident.
