Join us as we reprise our very first History & Heritage walk which takes us to the historic town of Dorchester on Thames, led by Jane Richardson. This time the walk will be in summer, and it's a chance for those who missed out first time round (but you're welcome to come a second time of course!)
Dorchester is overflowing with history from the Bronze Age right up to the present day (including filming locations for Midsomer Murders) and I can promise you plenty of scintillating stories and fun facts as we explore together.
Our tour will start at the beautiful Dorchester Abbey (What3Words reference: https://what3words.com/apes.same.modifies), one of the earliest Christian sites in England. Our route then takes us through ancient Iron Age fortifications and along the tranquil Thames path to the picturesque village of Little Wittenham. We then return across the meadows to explore Dorchester High Street where every building is an architectural gem. We will finish at the atmospheric 15th Century George Hotel, one of the very oldest coaching Inns in the country.
This circular walk is about 3 miles in length and will take about 3 hours.
The route is level and the walking is easy but the paths could be muddy so walking boots are recommended as is wet weather gear.
