About us
If you enjoy books that combine great storytelling with big ideas, this group is for you. We’ll read engaging nonfiction, literary fiction, biography, history, journalism, and public affairs—books that help us better understand politics, society, and the human experience without feeling like textbooks.
If you enjoy authors and books such as David Halberstam’s The Best and the Brightest, Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking, George Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia, Rohinton Mistry’s A Fine Balance, Katherine Boo’s Behind the Beautiful Forevers, Jonathan Blitzer’s Everyone Who Is Gone Is Here, Tina Rosenberg’s The Haunted Land, Erik Larson’s In the Garden of Beasts, Bob Dylan’s Chronicles, or Michael Lewis’s The Undoing Project, you’ll feel right at home. Our goal is thoughtful conversation, respectful disagreement, and discovering books that stay with us long after we’ve finished them.
Some books we might like to read together include The Power Broker by Robert Caro, The Quiet American by Graham Greene, The Mirage Factory by Gary Krist, Yellow Earth by John Sayles, and The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich.
Whether you’re a lifelong reader or just looking for one outstanding book every month, we’d love to have you join the conversation.
