A frontier girl (Debbie Reynolds) strikes it rich, enters high society and survives the TITANIC disaster.

Charles Walters directed this 1964 movie of Meredith Willson's Broadway musical, from a Helen Deutsch adaptation of Richard Morris' book. Harve Presnell reprises his Broadway role as Molly's estranged husband. (Tammy Grimes had played the title role on Broadway, but MGM tried to cast Shirley Maclaine and Judy Garland was also suggested before they settled on Debbie.) The studio cut $1 million from the budget (they were putting all their money into financing Doctor Zhivago) and the "He's My Friend" number--added for the movie version--had to be filmed in one day!

A watch party for historical movies on Friday nights.
