The life and death of French Queen Marie Antoinette (Norma Shearer).
W.S. Van Dyke directed this 1938 release from a Donald Ogden Stewart-Ernest Vajda-Claudine West script based on Stefan Zweig's 1932 biography Marie Antoinette: Portrait of an Average Woman. It's a big-budget MGM production with lavish costumes designed by Adrian, and a soundstage Versailles ballroom twice as big as the real one! This was the last project planned by MGM "boy wonder" Irving Thalberg (Norma's husband) before his death. The supporting cast includes Robert Morley as her husband Louis XVI, John Barrymore as Louis XV and Tyrone Power as Axel von Fersen.
