U.S. soldiers in the Glider Infantry Regiment fight in the Battle of the Bulge.
William Wellman directed this 1949 release from a script by Robert Pirosh, which he based on his own experiences in the battle. Producer Dore Schary resigned as RKO's head of production in 1947 after Howard Hughes resisted his plans to make the movie there, and took the project to MGM. The result was a commercial hit which won Oscars for Pirosh's story and screenplay and Robert C. Vogel's cinematography. The cast includes Van Johnson, Ricardo Montalban and James Whitmore.
