A Vietnamese girl displaced by war (Hiep Thi Le) marries an American soldier (Tommy Lee Jones) and moves to the United States.
Oliver Stone wrote and directed this 1993 epic, based on Le Ly Hayslip's memoirs When Heaven and Earth Changed Places and Child of War, Woman of Peace. (The Tommy Lee Jones character is a composite of several men Hayslip knew.) The supporting cast includes Haing S. Ngor (The Killing Fields) and Debbie Reynolds. It proved less popular than the same director's Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July, but Stone has called it his favourite movie.
