HCCB is completely volunteer run. Our guides generously take time out of their busy schedules to run trips and trainings. If you RSVP yes, please consider this a commitment to attend. If you cancel within 12 hours or are a no-show, the host keeps the right to temporarily or permanently ban you from all their meetups.

This counts as a training. Please only sign up to one training per week.

Novice night trip - headed north 2-6 miles.
You must have attended at least one training this season. Pick a craft you are comfortable in and you can make headway.
We'll paddle against the current and see how far we get. Hopefully we'll make it to at least Weehawken Cove. If we move fast we'll go further!
Depending how well you handle your boat and if you are strong enough to paddle against the current, this trip may qualify you for intermediate trips (after a successful time trial).
Please be mindful of others and arrive on time. Check the cut off time to arrive under the timeline. Let's get ready quickly to maximize our time on the water.
Double and triple check that you can stay until the last minute of time listed as the end time on meetup and possibly later!
PREREQUISITES TO RSVP
- Volunteered at least once for an embayment shift or Hudson River Cup in 2025
- Attended at least one training
- If you'll be taking a sea kayak you must have competed a wet exit in 2024 or 2025
COME PREPARED
- Quick drying clothes
- Towel
- Change of clothes
- Sunscreen, hat
- Water in a reusable bottle
- All around waterproof white light (if you have one)
TIMELINE
6:00 - 6:10 PM - Meet at HCCB. Prepare equipment.
6:15 PM - Cut off time to arrive. Safety briefing.
6:45 PM - Paddle north against the current!
8:30 PM - turn around time
9:15 PM - Approximate return time
9:30 PM - Clean and put away equipment
10:00 PM -Training ends
