Columbia University: Advanced Volunteer Trip - 22 miles total

This trip is open to those who have volunteered in 2025 during our public program events. Our 2026 public program will start again in May.

HCCB is completely volunteer run. Our guides generously take time out of their busy schedules to run trips and trainings. If you RSVP yes, please consider this a commitment to attend. If you cancel or no-show, you take a spot away from someone else. Hosts reserve the right to temporarily or permanently ban you from all their meetups if you cancel within 8 hours or are a no show.

Are you ready for a paddling marathon?

Let's visit the Muscota Marsh. We'll get to paddle under 3 bridges, see the little red light house, and also paddle on a 2nd river.

PREREQUISITES TO RSVP:

1. volunteered at least 4 shifts in 2025
   AND
2. completed sea kayak LV 2 in 2025 or SUP LV3
   AND
3. completed at least one intermediate or advanced trip in 2025
   AND
4. you are able to paddle consistently at 2 knots for 2.5 hours each way & have an advanced time trial

COME PREPARED:

• At least 1 working and charged all-around white waterproof light
• Wetsuit or dry suit (we may have a couple of dry suits available)
• Change of clothes in a dry bag
• Something warm to put on when we land
• Neoprene booties (we may have some available)
• Change of clothes
• Water in a reusable bottle
• Anything else you may need to spend 6 hours paddling in cold weather

CRAFT:

• Sit on top - not allowed
• Sea Kayak - Level 3
• OC1/OC2 - Ke Aloha supporting paddlers with a Ke Aloha coach approval
• SUP - only if completed 10+ mile round trip in 2025
• Surfski - not allowed

TIMELINE:
8:00 AM Arrive at the boathouse
8:15 AM Safety briefing hard cutoff to arrive. Whoever does not make it by this time will not be able to join
8:45 AM Move boats to the beach
9:00 AM Depart from HCCB
12:00 PM Arrive at Columbia
12:15 PM Land and stash boats

90 minutes to eat and relax

1:45 PM Meet at boats, prepare gear, return safety briefing
2:00 PM Depart from Columbia
4:30 PM Arrive at HCCB
4:45 PM Clean and put away equipment
5:30 PM Trip ends
