About us

Have you ever rolled your eyes when a religious leader (such as your youth pastor, rabbi, priest, whatever) told you to 'just have faith' or 'just pray about' something? Have you ever had serious questions or doubts about your own religious views and beliefs? Have you ever heard the term 'deconstruction' and were curious to learn more? Then this group is for you.

Holy Shift is a Chapel Hill, NC social group for people with questions, doubts, church baggage, existential crises, religious trauma/residue, theological rabbit holes, and an unhealthy number of Bible verses committed to memory that they can no longer explain away.

You don't have to have the right answers, or any answers at all. You're safe to be unsure, to change your mind, and to not know. We'll wrestle with big questions, laugh at the weird parts, unpack the hard parts, and dig into the narratives and religious systems that shaped us. We'll listen to each other's stories - because your journey matters and you're not walking it alone.

Whether you're deconstructing your faith, reconstructing, somewhere in the middle, or just spiritually freelancing - you belong.

As we launch this group and seek out our inaugural members, we will plan to meet in-person at One40 Social off Franklin Street in Chapel Hill to grab a drink, grab some food, and have meaningful conversations where curiosity is encouraged, respectful disagreement is welcome, and nobody has to pretend that they've got it all figured out. As the group grows, we will add other events based on member interest and need.

Come be curious and skeptical with us.

Our group has no official creed other than the Golden Rule. There is no pressure. No proselytizing. No apologetics PowerPoints. Just sincere people asking big questions.
