HONEYLOVE SYMPOSIUM WITH ATREYA MANASWI

Link visible for attendees

We're so pleased to share the work of award-winning Atreya Manaswi, a ninth-grader (yes!) who—through dedicated and scientific research—has discovered a safe and effective treatment for SHB. Found in the U.S. only two decades ago, the Small Hive Beetle continues to spread across the globe. One female hive beetle can deposit over 2000 eggs in her lifetime. Beetles wreak havoc inside the hive and can destroy a colony in a week’s time. In his research, Manaswi tested organic agents to discover a new, affordable, and safe alternative to the current inadequate treatment options.

HONEYLOVE SYMPOSIUM WITH THE BEE MAVEN

Link visible for attendees

Gabrielle Shivers, also known as The Bee Maven, started honey bee rescue unintentionally about 10 years ago when she posted online that she was available to remove a swarm. She needed bees to pollinate her veggie garden. As we all know, if one person has your number for bee removal, it’s not long before that number gets out. Ten years later and The Bee Maven is a sole-proprietor, woman-owned business doing professional honey bee rescue all over Southern California. Join us as we talk about her best tips for bee removal, insights into bee behavior and how her job and her passion are one and the same.

SYMPOSIUM: DR. REBECCA MARSLAND

Link visible for attendees

Dr Rebecca Marsland is the Senior Social Anthropology Lecturer at Edinburgh University in the United Kingdom and was one of our most popular conference speakers. She has carried out research on beekeeping in the UK, USA, and the Netherlands, examining the differences between natural, large-scale commercial, and conventional hobbyist beekeeping. Beekeepers make it a habit to notice bees’ behavior. Do different kinds of beekeepers – natural, commercial, conventional or hobbyist – notice different things? How does this transform their beekeeping and enrich a beekeeper’s own practice?

SYMPOSIUM: THE BEEKEEPER'S TOOL KIT

Link visible for attendees

How much bee equipment do you need? What are the basics? The extras? What's a super? Which hive tool should I use? Queen excluder? Inner cover? Join us a HoneyLove board member and OG beek Dennis Broderick take you through all the best gear and answers your questions.
