About us
Hong Kong Plant Walk is a group for people who want to learn more about the native plants of Hong Kong. We’ll go for walks in Hong Kong’s country parks and look at interesting plants along the way! We’ll use iNaturalist to make records of plants we discover and contribute useful biodiversity data at the same time. This is an amateur group and beginners are welcome.
Many of us in Hong Kong are affected by “plant blindness” — we tend to overlook the plants around us. By noticing and learning to recognize the plants in our environment, we can better appreciate the richness of Hong Kong’s native flora and feel more connected to nature — come along and find out!

Hong Kong Plant Walk #3: Tsz Lo Shan Path
Wong Nai Chung Gap Reservoir Park, Wong Nai Chung Reservoir, Below Parkview, Hong Kong, CNAbout this outing:
HK plant walk is back with a summertime walk! For this outing, we will be doing an easy stroll along Wong Nai Chung Catchwater and Tsz Lo Shan Path. As always, our aim is to get familiar with Hong Kong’s native plants by using the Inaturalist app. We will begin with a quick overview about Inaturalist and how to make and upload an observation – by doing so, you’ll be contributing useful biodiversity data to a huge citizen science database! Then, we will wander at a comfortable pace along the water catchment, pausing to look more closely at plants and record what we see. This mostly shaded trail has a lot of interesting plants, and if we are lucky, we might spot a few buttercup orchids, a beautiful native species (see picture). This event is beginner-friendly. You need moderate fitness, comfortable hiking shoes, and not mind getting a bit sweaty in the hot weather! Shoes with good grip are best as some parts of the trail are uneven and may be wet, and there is one short and rough downhill section to exit to Repulse Bay.
