What we’re about
At least once a month at HoustonPhotowalks.com, we drum up some crazy idea for a place to photograph and practice our photo techniques. We're a fun bunch, no pressure, no stress. Come ready to learn and share what you know among other photographers.
Check out our Member Discounts, Sponsors and other cool stuff on our Good Stuff page: https://houstonphotowalks.com/member-perks/
This group is perfect for new camera owners, novice hobby photographers, and old dogs that have been shooting photos for a long time.
Our group has 3 main principles that guide our way:
• Fun and Safe (we want you to have a great time, and not die).
• Honor the amateur photography clubs that came before us. Their enthusiastic interest in photography paved the way for the technology evolution that allows us to capture light today.
• Education, of ourselves, each other and the community. We learn our best techniques from each other, and we teach the community that photographers aren't jerks, criminals or terrorists.

See all- Photowalk: Building Textures and Light Painting at Creepy HollowCreepy Hollow Haunted House, Rosharon, TX$2.57
Creepy Hollow has a very strict photography policy, but we have permission for rare off-season access to one of Texas’ most iconic haunted attractions—without the crowds, costumes, or chaos. Join us for a spooky-off-season photowalk at Creepy Hollow Haunted House, where we’ll explore eerie textures, weathered props, and dramatic lighting as the sun sets.
Creepy Hollow is just south of Houston on 288.
PHOTOWALKING CREEPY HOLLOW
This is a rare chance to photograph the exterior buildings of Creepy Hollow Haunted House without the usual Halloween crowds. We’ll explore the grounds during golden hour and into the night, capturing the eerie ambiance of this iconic location.
- Photographer’s Challenge: Seek out the intricate details in the Dark Woods area, where the combination of natural elements and man-made props creates compelling compositions.
EVENT DESCRIPTION:
As we begin in the late afternoon, the setting sun will cast dramatic shadows across the weathered facades and eerie props. As night falls, the environment transforms, offering opportunities for light painting and capturing the haunting ambiance under the stars.
This event is open to photographers of all skill levels. Whether you're using a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or smartphone, you'll find plenty of inspiration. Bring your creativity and a sense of adventure!
IMPORTANT INFO:
- Our access *indoors* will be limited. We may have some access, but due to construction and other factors, we will focus mostly on an outdoor photowalk.
- There will be no models, costumes or actors, just us and the buildings.
- Due to ongoing construction, please watch your step and be cautious of your surroundings.
- Bring a flashlight to navigate dimly lit areas safely.
- Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes; avoid sandals or heels.
- Bug repellent is recommended, as the area is wooded.
- For light painting, consider bringing strong flashlights, color gels, or other light-modifying tools.
- Wide-angle and fast lenses (e.g., f/1.4) are ideal for capturing the scene in low light.
PARKING:
Parking is available on the side of the building. Drive past the first driveway with the hearse in the yard and take the second driveway (572A). Park in the visitors' parking area on the left. We will meet near the ticket booth.

Volunteer Photographer Opportunity: Fade2Black Art Festival
Houston Photowalk members are invited to participate as volunteer photographers for the upcoming Fade2Black Art Festival, happening June 8–14, 2025, across several of Houston’s top performing arts venues. This is a fantastic chance to gain experience, earn photo credit in a commemorative photo book, and possibly receive national exposure.
The Fade2Black Art Festival (https://www.fadetoblackfest.com), organized by Houston non-profit Shabach Enterprise, is a one-of-a-kind national event showcasing the African American experience through film, music, poetry, theatre, and visual arts. Venues include the Hobby Center, Houston Ballet, HSPVA, MATCH Theater, the Houston Symphony, and more.
Volunteers can sign up to cover one or more events, with the goal of having at least two photographers at each venue. Photowalk members who choose to wear an official HoustonPhotowalks t-shirt while shooting will be reimbursed for the purchase (available at zazzle.com/store/houstonphotowalks)*.
To volunteer, please contact longtime HoustonPhotowalks member Rudy Mui via email not on meetup chat. You can contact Rudy at photography@rudymui.com (unfortunately, the link is not working and you will need to open your mail application and enter my email) . Rudy has been documenting Fade2Black since 2015 and will be coordinating our photography efforts with the Fade2Black organizers.
*To qualify, the shirt must be a HoustonPhotowalks shirt, with the HoustonPhotowalks logo, not one of our other non-HPW shirts.
