The Museum of Printing History narrates the story of written communication and the ways in which the technologies of printing have transformed our lives. HoustonPhotowalks.com will be making a donation to the Museum as part of our visit.
Galleries trace significant developments from ancient Mesopotamian clay tablets, to the Chinese invention of movable type, to Johann Gutenberg's printing press. American history is dramatized through newspaper accounts of major events from the American Revolution to the Civil War; Texas history is told through the life of the state's first printer, with a press he owned and a display of the documents and newspapers he printed. The Hearst Newspaper Gallery demonstrates the emergence of modern printing, and our exhibit of historic newspapers documents pivotal moments in recent history.
Another note, the museum will be conducting 2 workshops during the day which should make for some interesting shots. But they do ask that we give them a very wide birth and not directly disturb the students.
And yet another note, if you would like to return at (or stay until) 2pm, the museum will be conducting a guided tour. This is an additional $7 per person, and you would pay that directly to the museum.
HoustonPhotowalks participates in the long-term health and maintenance of venues we visit by providing financial donations when appropriate. Your fee for this photowalk event will be included with a donation to the organization in the name of HoustonPhotowalks.com.
HERE'S THE COOL PART!! If we raise at least $400 from this event, we can become "Organizational Members" of the museum. This will allow us to use the museum for meetings and classes at a significantly reduced rate. This will be a really nice place to do classes!
Flash and Tripod
Flash is not permitted (typical of most museums we visit).
I talked them into letting us use tripods. However, to prevent damage to any artifacts, they ask for us to always keep them in a vertical position (not carrying them horizontally). That means, no swinging them over our shoulder or carrying them like they are spears on the hunting grounds of big game.
Also, to prevent bumping/scraping into artifacts, they also requested we travel light. Go easy on the big camera bags please.
Be sure and read the event FAQ info below and contact the event host directly if you have any questions.
To reserve your spot, event payment is due before midnight the night you RSVP. Otherwise your space is given to someone else. If you are on the "waiting list", make sure your email settings allows meetup.com to contact you via email so you will know when you get moved up.
