Houston is the host of the National Museum of Funeral History. It houses the country’s largest collection of funeral service artifacts and features renowned exhibits on one of man’s oldest cultural customs. Mourning rituals of ancient civilizations, up-close looks at the authentic items used in the funerals of U.S. presidents and popes, explore the rich heritage of the industry which cares for the dead.
Among the more interesting things to photograph is an extensive collection of funeral-related vehicles.
This is a really interesting place and we've had a really fun photowalk each time we've visited over the years, so join us!
The Museum requests we not use flash for this walk due to the sensitivity of the aging artifacts. The no-flash policy has been fluid on past visits, so bring a flash, but please ask before using it. This will be a great opportunity to practice low-light techniques -- and politely asking permission before using a flash.
The lighting can be very mixed, bright in some places, dim in others. And the color temperatures aren't always even. So be on careful lookout with your white balance settings.
We will be paying a per-person entry fee. Money will be collected when you RSVP so we can buy the tickets all at once and go in as a group.
