Did you miss the Friday Photowalk before it filled up? Get a Second Shot with Big Boy No. 4014!

Not able to attend on Friday? Want to go on Friday but also hedge your bets for perfect train photography weather? Join us on Monday, October 7th, when the Big Boy locomotive returns to Navasota!

Let's photowalk Navasota, Texas, where historic charm and a rare piece of railroad history will come together for another day of great photography opportunities. We start at Classic Rock Coffee Company & Kitchen at 11:00 am and photowalk along Washington Ave (TX-105), heading southwest through the heart of Navasota’s downtown.

This photowalk will offer rich opportunities to capture the essence of small-town Texas, so sign up early so you are on board. Every corner offers something unique for your lens, from the charming storefronts and architecture to the street scenes and hidden gems along Washington Ave. Whether you’re drawn to historic buildings, vibrant street photography, antiques, or capturing the daily life of a Texas town, Navasota will not disappoint.

The highlight of the afternoon will be the arrival of Big Boy No. 4014, the largest steam locomotive ever built, a true piece of living history. This Union Pacific engine, stretching 132 feet and weighing 1.2 million pounds, will be making a stop at the E. McAlpine St. railroad crossing at 1:30 p.m.

Photographers will have a 30-minute window to capture the awe-inspiring scale and detail of this legendary engine as it rests in town before its departure at 2:00 p.m. The train's size, intricate mechanical design, and historical significance make it an exciting subject for both experienced photographers and hobbyists alike.

Bert Miller (the mayor of Navasota) invited us to come and witness this incredible event. He always goes off the rails to make sure we have a great time! Navasota has always been one of HoustonPhotowalks' favorite out-of-town photowalk destinations, known for its friendly atmosphere, beautiful downtown, and an opportunity to see a historic steam locomotive up close.

Important Safety Notes:

  • Stay back at least 25 feet from all railroad tracks. This includes drones.
  • Railroad tracks, trestles, yards, and right of way are private property. Do not trespass.
  • This is the location of a terrible photographer-train situation several years ago, when a photographer standing on the tracks was hit and killed by an oncoming train. YOU MAY NOT HEAR TRAINS as they come in. STAY OFF THE TRACKS.
  • Stay safe, have fun!

We hope to see you there with your cameras ready! Be sure to RSVP and get ready for a day filled with some steampendous photography in one of Texas's most picturesque towns.
