Details

Kemah Boardwalk is known for it’s daytime activity and great night photography opportunities, but it’s also a great place to shoot sunrise. The sun rises over the water when you shoot East off the boardwalk.

Additionally, some of the restaurants and rides are lit up in the pre-dawn hours – which also makes for some high quality HDR opportunities.
The early morning boat activity creates some nice opportunities as well. The rest of the boardwalk and the surrounding area is good fodder for morning light. You’ll be able to fill your card with fantastic images before the heat gets too bad!

Dawn starts at 6:59 am and Sunrise is at 7:23 am.
Parking available in front of the Bullet (rollercoaster) and just past Starbucks in front of Saltgrass. If for some reason that parking is all full there is street parking avail on Bradford Ave between 4th and 5th Streets.

FYI – Starbucks on Kemah Boardwalk normally opens at 7am

Gear Tips
Because of potential humidity, your gear can easily fog up if you don’t plan ahead. You need to make sure that your camera, lenses etc. are up to to the outside temperature and humidity long before arriving. Turn your auto A/C off at least a half hour before arriving and roll your windows down.

Bring a tripod or Platypod, remote shutter releaseperhaps a good ND filter, perhaps a superwide prime or zoom lens.
