TL;DR: Let's visit the Heritage Village Museum with a tour, then enjoy an All-You-Can-Eat lunch at Pickett House. Note, prices at the museum and the restaurant have changed since the last time we visited. Meetup price includes tour fee, lunch, and the restaurant's 15% gratuity.

Join us for a photowalk to one of East Texas’ most interesting historic villages. We'll explore the preserved pioneer-era buildings, then sit down together for a Southern lunch at the famous Pickett House Restaurant.

Based on the Museum's group pricing policy, we will collect in advance, the cost of the tour, lunch, and gratuity for the restaurant staff.

Heritage Village and Pickett House Restaurant are located at 157 Private Road 6000, Woodville, TX 75979 (Google Maps).

WHY PHOTOWALK HERITAGE VILLAGE MUSEUM?

• Heritage Village Museum in Woodville is like stepping into a small East Texas town from the late 1800s. Spread across the property are historic structures and artifacts that show what life looked like in the region during the pioneer era.

• The Pickett House Restaurant was originally a two-room schoolhouse called Midway School built in 1909 before being relocated and turned into the restaurant visitors know today.

• The site includes historic buildings, including a blacksmith shop, church, schoolhouse, and homesteads, many filled with period artifacts that make for interesting interior photography.

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

We’ll meet at Heritage Village Museum and enter together at 9:13 AM to begin our photowalk through the historic grounds.

At 11:00 AM, we’ll gather for lunch at the famous Pickett House Restaurant, located right behind the village. The Pickett House serves an all-you-can-eat family-style Southern meal — no menus, just bowls of classic favorites like fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, vegetables, and cobbler brought to the table.

After lunch, the museum remains open until 3:00 PM, so attendees are welcome to continue exploring and photographing the village for the rest of the afternoon.

During this time of day, the village provides a mix of interior and exterior photography opportunities. You’ll find weathered wood buildings, antique tools, historic household items, and quiet East Texas scenery throughout the property. It’s a great place to slow down and practice seeing small details and historic textures.

As always, our photowalks are open to all skill levels and all types of cameras — from professional gear to hobby cameras and even camera phones. The goal is simply to enjoy photography and spend time with others who share the same interest.

To keep the experience comfortable and avoid stepping in each other's shots, attendance will be limited to 25 people.
