About us

Join Hack The Box Meetup Vancouver, a community-driven meetup focused on hands-on, collaborative workshops on hacking and defending systems. This is a friendly and welcoming space where people from any background can learn together and better understand how real-world attacks work.

🔓 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭
Each month, we will "hack" through a vulnerable machine on the Hack The Box platform in a guided and discussion-based session, with a focus on explaining why certain techniques work, not just how to execute them. No prior offensive security experience is required - all you need is the willingness to engage and learn.

🔍 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧
By thinking like an attacker and hacking your way into a machine, you can expect to learn:

  • How attackers approach a new system and look for weaknesses
  • Common vulnerabilities and misconfigurations found in real environments
  • How initial access is typically achieved and what that means for defenders
  • Why managing privileges matters and how attackers abuse misconfigured access
  • How offensive techniques translate into better defensive thinking and risk awareness

💡 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝
We welcome everyone who wants to learn and enjoy cybersecurity in a hands-on, collaborative environment, including but never limited to:

  • People new to cybersecurity or exploring different security paths
  • Software engineers, developers, and AppSec professionals interested in building more secure applications
  • Defensive, GRC, or IT professionals looking to better understand attacker behaviour
  • Offensive security and red team practitioners who want to contribute, share experience, and mentor others
