About us
I’ve been canceled a few times for my hot takes, attitude, eye-rolls, general independent mindset as a woman. But I’ve learned a lot about friendship and running a social group for the last 10+ years and I’m here to tell you these four things:
- It’s easy to meet new people and have a fun time socializing. It’s hard to make/maintain good friends that “get” you.
- Friendship is a lifelong journey. It takes time & dedication. Some people are for 50 years, some people are for 50 minutes.
- There’s a difference between friendship and a social life. Joining this group? That’s part of your social life.
- Meetup, Eventbrite, Facebook groups, TimeLeft, Sweat Pals, Your local run club: They get friendship & community wrong most of the time. These platforms are simply tools & resources to meet people. The friendship part? That's on each of us individually.
My goal in running this group is to be an authentic voice & space. Our social lives should be fun! I like to host crazy bar crawls, dumb fake birthday parties, weird art nights. Life’s too short for another weekly happy hour. I’m also a realist. We don’t have to sugar coat everything. You might come to an event and hate everyone. It happens! Events & networking can be draining. Let's just try to have a fun night a few times a month! If this all speaks to you, join us!
I used to have a lot of rules to join our group & attend our events. It started to cause drama so now I only have 2: This group is not for dating. If you meet the love of your life at an event, congrats! But please respect our group is based on platonic friendship. Most important: Let’s just be inclusive and cool. & yes I myself have been a huge B*&$# as a host in previous years while I let my emotionally immature gemini side run my life. Kindness, inclusivity, and also acknowledging that not everything has to be for everyone will get us everywhere.
