See all- Film Club: Roads to Being (secret film - hints in description)St Hilda's East Community Centre, London
What remains when stability, property and even the town itself vanish?
After an economic collapse wipes a company town off the map, a middle-aged widow loads her life into a van and drifts through deserts, Badlands and big-box parking lots, chasing temp jobs and campfire friendships with fellow wanderers. Each mile tests the fragile freedom of living unmoored—where sunsets feel endless, grief whispers through cracked vinyl seats, and the next exit might hold either solace or silence in the vast American nowhere. Can you guess the film? Or come to the event and find out on the day!
PFA Film Club hosts free screenings of thought-provoking films, followed by a discussion about the raised philosophical issues, for general public. In 2025 meetings are held every third WEDNESDAY of the month at the Cafe of St. Hilda's East Community Centre, 18 Club Row, London E2 7EY. The nearest station is Shoreditch High Street on the Overground. The screening starts at 18:30 pm and we need to vacate the building by 9:00pm. We offer complimentary light refreshments during the event.

- Kant's Cave: Bryan Kam - Neither/ Nor: On Concepts and ExperienceTwo Chairmen, London
In Western and Indian philosophy, we find a tension between abstract concepts and direct perception, from Plato and the Buddha, to Descartes and Hume, to Russell and Wittgenstein. This talk will suggest how these seemingly opposed modes of knowing can be trained as complementary skills rather than conflicting positions, with implications for both philosophy and everyday life.
Bryan Kam is a philosopher exploring the intersections of Eastern and Western philosophical traditions, with particular interest in making philosophy accessible and practical, and in the question of how conceptual thinking relates to human suffering and flourishing.
PFA is currently holding Kant's Cave meetings upstairs at the Two Chairmen, 39 Dartmouth Street, SW1H 9BP, with Zoom option for those who are not able to join in person, every first Monday of the month. Join us for more great talks and discussion! All welcome, link available when you sign up.
This event is sponsored by the Royal institute of Philosophy.
