What we're about

SAGE Central North Carolina is a program established to advocate for and reach out to the members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community. Our mission is to assist our friends with issues dealing with health care, legal problems, housing and inter-generational relationships, as well as provide expanded options for social interaction and reduce social isolation. We are affiliated with SAGE of New York City, which has been dedicated to serving the senior members of the LGBT community for 30 years.

Virtual Online Thursday Morning Video Drop-in

Online event

Since we can't meet in person, we are now meeting via video conference using an application called ZOOM. This is a great opportunity for us seniors to learn a new technology. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, sit back and have fun. You'll enjoy seeing familiar faces that we've been missing since the lockdown went into effect. If you don't want to be seen on screen you also have the option to speak without your video turned on. The attendance limit is 30 at one time, but people will probably come and go, so you can check back from time to time to see if you can chime in. For those who have not used Zoom before, we would suggest you log on 10-15 minutes early to familiarize yourselves with the application. You do not need a password. When you RSVP to this invitation the link for the meeting will appear on the right side of this page. Click on the link and complete the login. You will then be admitted to the group conference. If for some reason you are asked what the Meeting ID is, this is the number:[masked] See you on the computer!

Virtual: 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's

Needs a location

[This is not a SAGE Central North Carolina sanctioned event. However, since it is a SAGE Wilmington event, and covers an essential aspect of the senior experience, we want to make you aware that it is happening.] Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. This July, join the Alzheimer’s Association and SAGE Wilmington of the Cape Fear Coast for a series of Virtual Education Programs to learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, warning signs to look for in yourself or a loved one, ways to keep the body & brain healthy, and how to respond to dementia-related behaviors. In order to register for this, the second of 4 events in the series, click on this link: https://action.alz.org/PersonifyEbusiness/Events/alz/MeetingDetails.aspx?productId=70656506

SAGE Success with Hearing Aids

Online event

Are you having trouble with the Speech Banana? Leaning in, saying "What did you say?" a lot, sometimes feeling at a loss to understand what someone is saying while you're in a group? Last month, Patricia Johnson, Au.D., assistant professor at UNC's School of Medicine, talked to us about how face masks affect communication. She's back, by popular demand! In this virtual presentation, Dr. Johnson will provide practical information on types of hearing loss, what to look for when researching hearing aids, and how to decide what's right for you. There will be time for questions and answers. You do not need a password to log in to the Zoom meeting from here. Once you RSVP to this invitation, the link for the meeting will appear on the right side of this page. Click on the link and complete the login. You will then be admitted to the group conference. If for some reason you are asked what the Meeting ID is, this is the number:[masked]
