### Writing the Heroine’s Journey: Descent of the Goddess

As we celebrate the epic adventure of Odysseus in a movie extravaganza, The Odyssey directed by Christopher Nolan, a hero’s journey that has revived interest in classical literature, we might wonder: Where is the heroine? She appears in the literature of antiquity, her exploits told, her hymns sung.

Join us to explore the hidden terrain of the heroines’ journey at its most dramatic and transformative in her ancient, suppressed tales and leave with a sense of awe. We will tell powerful excerpts and provide writing prompts so that the old stories become living maps once again.

Kate Farrell, is a storyteller, author, librarian, and founder of the Woven project to tell the heroine’s journey. She has contributed to and edited award-winning anthologies of personal narrative; as an educator she founded the Word Weaving Storytelling Project and published numerous educational materials on storytelling. Kate’s award-winning book is Story Power: Secrets to Creating, Crafting, and Telling Memorable Stories. Her upcoming book, published by Sibyl Writing Craft, The Fairy Tale Heroine: Live and Write Her Journey, is available January 2027. https://katefarrell.net/ or https://woventales.net/

Beth Mattsson is a Certified Creative Journal Expressive Arts Instructor, a trained SoulCollage® facilitator, a Facilitator of Intuitive Painting and Expressive Arts, and Touch Drawing. She is also a Breathwork facilitator which helps us go from our heads to our hearts. She offers workshops as well as one-on-one creative facilitation. Beth has led workshops for women, leadership teams at nonprofit organizations, at conferences for school employees, as well as at professional development days at school districts. She lives in Menlo Park with her husband and their rescue boxer dog, Bella, and is recently retired from her 21-year career in public education.
