Annual, sort of, Backpack, Arbuckle Tract
Details
One last weekend before the Florida heat curbs the backpackers. Meet us at the Kiosk at Arbuckle Tract at 1585 Rucks Dairy Road on a Saturday, We will have a later start, hiking 5 or 6 miles to reach our first campsite. On Sunday we will hike approximately 10 miles to our second campsite on the lake where we can hike additional trails or enjoy the woods. On Monday we will have a shorter hike to return to our vehicles.
EXPERIENCED packers will need a positive attitude, all your own gear, food and a water filtration system. One night our trail angel Jennifer will cache water for us. While the hike is not technical , the footpath often times is sugar sand, it is 3 days, and it could be hot. (hopefully. LOL) Excellent health is a must.
There are no bear boxes. Hanging food is questionable as there are vultures. One campsite might not be amenable to hammocks.
Bring a little cash to cover the cost of the campsites.
Hope to hike with you and enjoy the woods before the heat and rain sets in. (Arbuckle is worth it!)
