Slide Mountain
Details
IMPORTANT: YOU WILL NEED AN ADVENTURE PASS TO PARK AT OUR MEETUP POINT. SEE COMMENTS.
10.8 mile roundtrip, moderate to hard hike, north of Castaic, California with a 2,559 ft elevation gain. You need to be in good hiking shape. It's up most of the way. We'll stop several times going up and at the top to discuss the geology and plants. If you are concerned about the difficulty of the hike then plan on just doing a portion, turn around, and follow the route we took up (please let me know if you plan to do this).
Bring a snack, plenty of water, hat and sunblock. You may enounter a rattlesnake(s). Look first where you are going to step, reach, or sit down.

From a geologic standpoint we will be hiking in the Ridge Basin Group, a late Tertiary age marine, brackish-water, and lake deposit. Trail will cross the San Gabriel fault near the top. We used to teach geology field mapping and compass courses in the area so I shouldn't get us too lost, haha. The photo is a geology field class from CSULB in 2021.
A free geologic map covering most of the Slide Mtn Trail is available our foundation's website: https://geologicmapsfoundation.org/geologic-maps/

If you want or need to carpool then mention it in the comments for others to see.
