Geo-hike at Pine Mountain Club (PMC)

HIKERS FROM THE PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB AREA WILL BE JOINING THIS EVENT.

The North American-Pacific Plate Boundary, aka San Andreas fault, is adjacent to the northern edge of the Pine Mountain club golf course. Our 8:00 AM hike will visit the San Andreas fault line and see where the fault last ruptured the earth's surface during the great 1857 Fort Tejon Earthquake. Hike will be short, less than two miles, educational, and along the dirt road just north of the PMC golf course, where I will point-out tectonic landforms, such as pressure ridges, formed during the 1857 Earthquake. We will return to the Clubhouse parking lot about 9:30 AM. For those of you that want to see and hear more, are not too tired, we will start a second hike at 10:00 AM from the Pine Mountain Club Campground-Dog Park area. The hiking trail that heads west is built on the San Andreas fault line that broke in 1857. There are numerous pressure ridges and some offset gullies along the trail. Hike will be about 3 miles total, we will return along the same trail and should be back at the starting point by 11:30 AM or so.

The Mount Pinos and Pine Mountain Club (PMC) area are beautiful Alpine locations that are relatively close to Ventura and the Los Angeles area. Even though it is close to urban areas, during the weekdays PMC is peaceful with much less visitors. Lots of pine trees with plenty of shaded trails. Area has lots of interesting geology too.
In the area there are several campgrounds and PMC has several restaurants, rental cabins, and a clean and comfortable inn too.
