Humanist Program: Death with Dignity with Dr. Diana Spade

The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.

This will be a virtual meeting, the stream will start at 11:30 or earlier with music and a splash screen, the program will begin at 12:00pm.

This month, HCCO member and retired anesthesiologist, Dr. Diana Spade, will present on death with dignity and the right to die. In 2009, after practicing anesthesiology in Missouri for 27 years, Dr. Spade relocated to Oregon, where, from 2011 to 2017, she volunteered with Compassion and Choices of Oregon, receiving their Volunteer of the Year award in 2015. She recently relocated to Ohio and will share her experiences as both a physician educator and patient advocate for those using Oregon's Death with Dignity Law (the first in the US). Her presentation will include how the law is used, who can use it, who regulates it, impediments to its use, and how many other states have legalized it, as well as some info on the international use of aid in dying.
