Combating Food Insecurity Through Community
Details
Nov 1 will impact vulnerable communities in the Grand Valley as SNAP benefits decrease/dissappear. HDG works tirelessly at the Food Bank and at Homeward Bound to do our part to combat hunger. Now we have another opportunity to plug in to help.
Many LGBTQIA folks experience housing and food insecurity due to familial instability. They encounter a more challanging lanscape in employment and health services as well.
The Center at 640 White Ave is where LGBTQIA folks can go for community, support and guidance. Each day, (4-7) folks come to the Center to network, share space and build relationships.
They are asking for community members and allies to choose a night to bring a meal (and perhaps extra plates and napkins and cutlery) to feed those who count on the Center as their safe space.
HDG members may drop off food at 4 pm at 640 White Ave to feed folks OR they can choose to stay and share the potluck! HDG is welcome to be social and to meet and greet the LGBTQIA community. *this is their safe space and should be treated as such.
You may bring ANY item you choose...a casserole, a veggie trey, fruit, cheese, side dishes....if you are dropping off and not staying, please bring your food in a disposable containter so I do not have to worry about returning dishes to you. Andrea Williams
