HDG needs 10 volunteers on Friday February 6th to work in a warehouse to box, bag and/or prepare bulk commodities for families experiencing food insecurity on the Western Slope. This volunteer opportunity takes place in a secure, active warehouse setting and requires the ability to move freely, stand and walk for long periods of time, bend, reach, and lift up to 30 pounds. All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes (tennis shoes/work boots) No sandals, No jewelry, No perfume and wear clothing appropriate for a warehouse workplace setting.
The work our HDG team can include the following:
--folding, taping, and labeling corrugated cardboard boxes
--stocking the "assembly line" with non-perishable food items
--filling boxes and/or bags with canned and other non-perishable food
--sealing the filled boxes and stacking them on pallets
--breaking down/flattening cardboard for recycling
-- bagging produce such as potatoes, apples, and onions
--set up and dismantle the volunteer workspace
--working in a "clean room" to prepare food for the dehydrator or repackaging bulk commodities such as dried beans or rice
--flexibility is important for all volunteers to participate with assigned tasks as needed. It is understood that all activities will be performed as assigned by the food bank employees.
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST INDIVIDUALLY RSVP TO ATTEND (remember this is a private location). Since this is an active warehouse, attendance by children is restricted. Also, if your plans change, please be sure to update your RSVP so others may attend. Wear your HDG or Food Bank T-shirt if you have one.
